About Us
In 1964, the University of Waikato was established in response to the persistent efforts of residents in Hamilton who were eager to have a university in their city. Despite the limited resources available initially, new structures were inaugurated in 1965 by the Governor-General at the time, Sir Bernard Fergusson and the first Vice-Chancellor was Sir Don Llewellyn

Services & Facilities
The Tauranga campus provides a contemporary and versatile environment for students, equipped with various amenities such as communal study areas, a 24-hour computer lab, a library, a central atrium, a lecture hall, and classrooms. It also includes additional spaces like Te Manawaroa, which serves as a multipurpose area for overnight stays, an open courtyard called Ātea, and a café where students can socialize over coffee. Furthermore, free Wi-Fi is accessible to all students on the campus.
Accomodation
The newly built accommodation complex managed by the university is situated on Selwyn Street, right opposite the Tauranga city campus. The establishment offers 88 standard and three accessibility studio rooms with shared social spaces on each floor, providing picturesque views of the harbor. The basement level houses communal areas, while the outdoor area is a perfect spot for enjoying the pleasant Tauranga weather. Each studio room is fully furnished with an en-suite bathroom, a bed, desk, chair, bookshelf, wardrobe, mini-fridge, and free Wi-Fi. Students have the option of bringing their own bedding and towels or purchasing a linen pack.

Admissions Requirements

- Students must be 18 years old or more at the time of admission.
- The student must be fluent in English and must have passed one of the IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or other similar examinations.
- Students are needed to produce official transcripts from all of the academic institutions to which they have been admitted or previously attended. If the transcripts are not in English, students must provide the originals of the transcripts together with the translated copies of those transcripts.
